the build hook filling the values that worked with docker/buildx stopped working under kaniko.

it appears 4d3312564e has only partially solved this issue. 👻
ci seems to ignore the build args passed, even though everything works fine locally and kaniko is essentially being called with the exact same parameters from the makefile as are set in the ci...
