As per https://developers.cloudflare.com/turnstile/get-started/client-side-rendering/, there is a theme parameter which accepts light, dark and auto, I think we should set it. Now the problem is that the Go template renderer does not know whether a theme is dark, which is defined by the theme itself as a CSS variable (user-defined themes will also set it):

So I think we would need some JS to read the CSS variable from the current theme and then alter the captcha URL. Such a infrastructure would be useful to enable dark mode for other captchas as well in the future.

Ok, I just learned that gitea has a dark mode, I will try to adapt it. If possible, I can also try to add a dark mode to reCAPTCHA.

Solution will probably be a JS that triggers when a certain HTML element or property exists as rendered by the go template. Then, use isDarkTheme to determine the value for the theme parameter and then initialize the captcha. I think you could put this as web_src/js/features/captcha.js so we can later adapt it for other captcha types.

If you need to communicate values from template to JS (e.g. captcha type), use window.config.

Both hcaptcha and recaptcha have white spaces in dark mode. I limit the size of the iframe to make the white space less obtrusive. If anyone has a better way to deal with it, welcome to modify it.

You can avoid the eslint disables by using window. prefix. Or alternatively, define them in .eslintrc.yaml as globals.

I'm currently in the countryside for the Chinese New Year holiday, and I don't have the right equipment for me to write the code, I'll fix it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

No hurry. Another method may be to replace the script tags with await import(url) from JS. That way, the return value of the captcha scripts are in local scope and no globals are needed.

I have modified the code. The captcha's global variables will be fetched from window.

Thanks, looks good. If the providers support integration without relying on globals (by using url import), that would be the ideal integration, but this is good enough.

Non-standard attributes usually need the data- prefix.

The remoteip is optional. Does Gitea guarantee that the site admin always has the correct reverse-proxy config and Gitea can get the correct user remote IP by RemoteAddr? If no, what would happen? Just a question.

Checked with hcaptcha code, hcaptcha also supports remoteip but it doesn't use it.

My personal opinion is the same as this answer. Therefore, I think it may be a better choice to carry remoteip in the parameter.

One possible scenario is farming cheap labour to manually solve captchas and then submit them back with the form.

But the usage of remoteip above is just my personal guess, cloudflare’s official documentation does not explain how they use remoteip.
If you think that third parties should not be given so much information, then I will remove remoteip in a future commit.
What do you think?

Personally I prefer to keep the same behavior as hcaptcha (no remoteip)

It might still be fine to have the remoteip for the cloudflare turnstile, then it could be better to have enough comments.

Ok, I'm going to remove remoteip. If there is enough information in the future to prove that it would be better to carry this parameter, then we will discuss whether to add it.
