It might be a good idea to deploy a stalebot that periodically queries the state of issues and posts a 'stale issue/PR' message to inactive issues/PRs.

Sending a bot to tell other people just trying to be helpful their contribution has been promoted from ignored-for-now to abandoned-without-a-word? That sucks!

This line of reasoning is quite sane to be frank.

alright stalebot is evil and we won't be introducing it for..reasons..as outlined above.

I think it's better to either stay on top of the issue list or let the issues wait than to have a bot post 'stale' messages on issues that are simply just not super active.
